Here is what is happening at St Edmunds this Christmas.

 

Advent Service of Light

Sunday 1st December, 3.00 pm

 

The season of Advent is traditionally a time of preparation for Christmas ‘Looking for Light’ On this the first Sunday of Advent we have a special Advent service in which our readings and hymns focus on the watching and waiting for the coming of Christ, the light of the world. Please come and join us in this traditional Advent Service

Every Wednesday during Advent there will be a said Eucharist Service

Christmas Tree Festival

Sat 7th December, 10.00am - 4.00pm

Sun 8th December, 12.30am - 4.00pm

Mon 9th December, 10.00am - 3.00pm

 

Everyone is welcome to provide and decorate a tree for the festival to represent your business, company, society, hobby or just yourself. The tree needs to be artificial, no taller than 4 feet and have battery powered lights. Trees will be installed in the church on Friday 6th December, late afternoon, so come along then with your tree and decorations. The Church postcode is TN15 6AY. Please let us know if you are preparing a tree by contacting Kim Johnstone on 07769 167226 so we know how many to expect. Even if you don’t want to provide a tree, please do come and see the wonderful display of trees you won’t be disappointed

Carol Singing Saturday

14th December, 10.30 - 11.30am

 

Outside the shops in Hever Road Whatever the weather come and soak up the joy of Christmas, as carol singers from St. Edmund’s Church perform a selection of well-loved Christmas

Carols by Candlelight

Sunday 15th December, 6pm

 

As with all of our services a warm welcome awaits you at our Carols by Candlelight service. Come and enjoy the beauty of St. Edmunds in candlelight as we gather together to tell the story of Jesus through scripture, poetry, prose and music and start to celebrate the hope, peace, joy and love that Christ brings followed by mince pies and a glass of mulled wine in the Millennium Room

Christmas Lunch at the St. Edmund’s Centre

Monday 16th December between 12.00 noon - 2.00pm (booking essential)

 

Instead of our usual ‘Soup & Friendship’ Lunch we will be hosting a special ‘Christmas Lunch’ to which you are all invited. For catering purposes booking is essential, so please call Maxine on 01474 852357 or Sue on 01474 853616 to book your place or sign the list at the back of the Church. All are most welcome, you don’t have to be a church member to attend the lunch so encourage friends and neighbours from the village to come along. There is no set price, but if you can afford it a donation to help towards the costs would be welcome

 

Tea and Carols at St. Edmund’s Centre

Tuesday 17th December between 2.00 - 4.00pm

 

We are having a ‘Tea and Carols’ afternoon on Tuesday 17th December between 2.00 – 4.00pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and spend a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon in the St. Edmund’s Centre.

As Christmas Eve draws to a close the Parish Church of Saint Edmund King and Martyr, our ‘little church in the woods’ opens its doors and invites you to come and join in the celebrations of the birth of Jesus. It is a beautiful service of Holy Communion where traditional readings and carols sing out in praise of the Christ Child.

 

Christmas Morning Communion

25th December, 10.00 am

 

'Born this Happy Morning' This joyous family service is a wonderful time for families and friends to join together as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ It is reported that twelve million people think about going to Church over the Christmas period and while St. Edmunds may not have room for that many, we most certainly have room for, YOU!

Epiphany Service Sunday

5th January 2025

Epiphany is celebrated as the day the Star of Bethlehem finally led the Magi from the East to the child Jesus. They came bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh Our Epiphany service is an all-age service and starts at 10.30am
